British Style Crosswords

British style or cryptic crosswords differ from American style crosswords in that not all the letters intersect; there are spaces in the grid that stand alone. (See sample grid.)

This means that the answer to a particular clue could possibly have more than one spelling. For instance, the answer to the clue Cooking utensil could be either POT or PAN, when the intersecting letter is P, but there are no intersecting spaces for the second and third letters. It is therefore imperitive to closely read the clue to determine the correct answer.
